A glass opera
The Opera house at Bastille was built to commemorate the bicentenary of the storming of the Bastille in 1789. Thus, the house was inaugurated on the 13th of Jult, 1989. Carlos Ott was the architect chosen from more than 1700 worldwide for this project. The canadian-uruguyan's impressive structure is charcaterized by its transparence and by the use of rich materials outside as well as inside. The Bastille Opera is a theatrical building that is both prestigious and modern and served in the regenesis of the surrounding neighborhood that has since become vibrant and popular. The main hall seats 2700 and has a homogenous acoustic as well as its own stage equipment and workrooms for producing decors, costumes and accessories and rooms for work and rehearsals.
